Report & Recommendations of the Illinois Judicial Ethics Committee

The Illinois Judicial Ethics Committee (IJEC) is a joint committee of the Illinois Judges Association, Illinois State Bar Association, and Chicago Bar Association that helps judges address judicial ethics issues by publishing formal ethics opinions, providing informal ethics advice to inquiring judges, publishing white papers, and conducting ethics programs at judicial conferences.

In June 2021, IJEC submitted a Report and Recommendation to the Illinois Supreme Court proposing amendments to the Illinois Code of Judicial Conduct. The Supreme Court adopted the proposed Code, which became effective January 1, 2023. IJEC's Report and Recommendation contains a table summarizing the differences between the new 2023 Illinois Code of Judicial Conduct and the ABA Model Code of Judicial Conduct as well as the previous Illinois Code of Judicial Conduct.
